Surgery from the Experts

Bone grafting is a complex process that involves intensive planning and skill to ensure the proper results for a patient to qualify for dental implants. As a preliminary procedure for a permanent tooth replacement, choosing the right doctor for your treatment is crucial to your long-term health. Bone grafting not only determines the function of your dental implants but affects the overall aesthetic outcome of your treatment as well. As specialists in bone grafting, Drs. Laun and Gustave are experienced in the numerous techniques and materials involved in this procedure in addition to having the skill to take bone from other parts of the body instead of a donor source if needed. This vast range of expertise in bone grafting means our oral surgeons have what it takes to provide treatment for even complex cases.

Specialized Bone Grafting Services

Bone grafting involves taking bone from another part of your body or a donor source and using it to rebuild the volume and density of your jaw ridge. This process involves many techniques depending on where you have lost bone in your jaw. Your surgery will be completed in one of our surgical suites while you are comfortably under sedation or anesthesia

Bone loss in the upper jaw beneath the sinuses or if sinuses are too close to the upper jaw will require a procedure called a sinus lift. This procedure involves lifting the sinus membrane to place bone grafts beneath and rebuild the height of the bone. Once healed, this bone will have the height and density to support dental implants.

Bone loss along the jaw ridge can leave the bone too thin and weak to safely secure dental implants. Ridge augmentation restores this ridge to build up the natural contours and density. This procedure also restores an aesthetic gumline for dental implants.

Extraction or tooth loss leaves an empty socket that can immediately be filled with bone grafting material. Once healed, there will be adequate bone volume and density to secure a dental implant later.

Sometimes the inferior alveolar nerve in the lower jaw doesn’t leave adequate room for dental implants. Nerve repositioning involves moving the nerve and vessel canal to the side so dental implants can be placed.
